Ages 10-13. Get ready to make a splash into a science-filled summer! Campers will dive right in each day to hands-on ocean science activities that touch on a variety of subjects. From examining plankton or microplastics through microscopes to water quality analysis and more, campers will experience the types of research that real marine biologists and oceanographers do! The Junior Marine Scientist Camp experience at Herring Gut Coastal Science Center features unique learning adventures that few other summer camps in Maine can offer. Sail onboard the 55' wooden ketch A Morning In Maine, all while conducting real oceanographic surveys. Venture out offshore to explore the remote Allen Island's unique ecology and coastline. Build memories that last a lifetime while learning in nature's briny classroom.
Ages 14-17. Young people know the climate is changing and the seas are rising–and they want to do something about it. At Changing Seas Camp, high school students are introduced to real research about the issues that the ocean faces in these rapidly changing times. With a focus on climate science and marine ecology, this camp is a fun, hands-on way for students to dip their toes into oceanography and marine biology while collecting real data that can help us understand how our local ecosystems are changing. Students will have the opportunity to go sailing, kayaking, and adventuring on remote islands, all while conducting marine research.
Ages 7-10. Oceanic Exploration! Build memories that last a lifetime while learning in nature's briny classroom. Each day, campers will experience firsthand the wonders of the ocean along Maine's rocky coastline. Every day brings new adventures: tidepooling, exploring plankton and the miniature life under microscopes, arts & crafts, and more!
